Facilitation

As a facilitator, I act as a neutral third party hired to run meetings effectively and efficiently. I actively facilitate community stakeholders vested in many different issues as well as community boards of directors who need help refining and combining the components that help them deliver their mission to their constituents. This may sound unnecessary, but once you experience it, you’ll never want to go back to regular old meetings.

When all of your stakeholders are not headed in the same direction, it’s time to engage a facilitator. As your facilitator, I can help you explore possibilities, mitigate differences, and create resolutions that acknowledge everyone’s contributions. Ultimately, you’ll reach more than consensus. Not only will you gain clarity on the issue, the individuals will feel more involved, valued, and respected. You’ll build trust and support for the solutions developed and all who participated.

Facilitation can help you take a challenge that seems insurmountable and break it down into pieces that are easier to tackle. Invite all stakeholders into an environment that is conducive to open discussion and creative problem solving.

Collective Impact

My antenna goes up when I hear the phrase “Collective Impact.” Successful systems change requires more than one organization attempting to change the status quo. Real societal shifts only take place with a commitment from everyone contributing to one particular system. Facilitation is a key component to that success. Through a facilitated process, all stakeholders are welcomed and valued to contribute to a plan that may take years to before we see different outcomes in society. I have had the pleasure to administer a collective impact approach to creating an Age-Friendly Community Plan and a Digital Inclusion Roadmap in the City of Long Beach. I am also the facilitator for All Children Thrive, a collaborative dedicating to improve the lives of children in Long Beach ages 0-8. Let me help your community or organization affect real change through a collective impact philosophy.
The 5 conditions of collective impact are:

  1. A common agenda
  2. Shared measurement system
  3. Mutually reinforcing activities
  4. Continuous communication
  5. Backbone support organization

If you are interested in tackling your issue with this perspective, your next move is to contact me to be your facilitator.
