Leslie A.M. Smith’s Bio
Hello! Thanks for visiting me on my virtual space.
I started my business in the family room of my house in Long Beach in 1994. I had just returned to get married in Southern California, where I was born and raised. The move meant giving up my job as the communications director of a statewide association of consulting engineers in Sacramento. I loved that job! Alas, the technology for remote work was not what it is today and I started my own business.
Here I am, almost three decades later, still married to the same guy with two grown daughters, and taking care of our third four-legged friend. I’m in a larger house with a designated office, continuing to create and implement full-blown marketing and public relations (PR) plans for businesses ranging in size from one-person consulting firms to global companies.
I started my career at an advertising agency in Irvine, California and soon made a shift to association management. Before heading to Sacramento, I served as the communications director for a local association of Realtors. In each of those positions, I promoted the collective successes of independent businesses ranging from one-person firms to multi-national corporations.
Since founding McCormick L.A. Public Relations, I have written dozens of marketing and promotional plans for a variety of local nonprofits, small “main street merchants,” and numerous solopreneurs in professional services. I have planned and implemented grand openings, groundbreakings, product launches, social initiatives, and other community relations activities that earned my clients front page and network news coverage.
I have successfully helped businesses from several industries including aerospace, food service, business associations, real estate, restaurants, medical devices, professional services, government agencies, and more. The outcomes have confirmed that no matter the industry or the size, applying the basic principles with savvy insight garners solid results.
An accomplished public relations consultant and trainer, I’m recognized for my ability to take complex concepts and explain them simply––without jargon and confusing acronyms.
